In his statement Mr. Mikeladze welcomed the Secretary-General’s report on “Implementing the Responsibility to Protect: Accountability for Prevention”. He also underscored that Georgia has been continuously supporting the principle of responsibility to protect and has been participating in the network of national focal points on R2P.

On 28 June 2017 the High Level SDG Action Event on Education was held in United Nations Headquarters in New York. The event that focused on SDG 4 - ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all - was convened by the President of the UN General Assembly as part of his SDG Action Event series aimed at generating momentum around the implementation of all 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

Ms. Elene Agladze, Deputy Permanent Representative of Georgia to the United Nations participated in the panel discussion on the topic of education in vulnerable and humanitarian situations.

Representative of Georgia underlined the risks of nuclear terrorism, proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and chances of these weapons falling into the hands of unauthorized actors, as demonstrated in the reports by the UN-OPCW Joint Investigative Mechanism. Mr. Imnadze stated that in this regard, full compliance with the obligations under the international arrangements, such as NPT, CWC, BWC, UNSC Resolutions 1540, 2325 and others, must stand out as a priority for the International Community.
