The theme of the HLPF in 2017 convened under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) is "Eradicating poverty and promoting prosperity in a changing world".

HLPF is a United Nations central platform for the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).  The set of goals being reviewed in depth are:  SDG1 - End poverty in all its forms everywhere; SDG2- End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture; SDG3 - Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages; SDG5- Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls; SDG9 - Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation; SDG14 - Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development and SDG17 - Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development.

In her statement the Head of the Delegation of Georgia reviewed the progress in the implementation of above mentioned goals in the country. She highlighted the steps taken and existing initiatives aimed at economic and social development, eradication of poverty, fostering entrepreneurship and innovation and achieving gender equality.

Ms. Tkhilava emphasized the role of the green growth as a main path towards the implementation of the SDGs.  In this context, she highlighted the importance of the 8th Environment for Europe Ministerial Conference of UNECE - "Batumi Ministerial" - hosted by Georgia in Batumi last year that played a significant role in fostering global action for promoting green economy and improving air quality for a better environment and human health.

Ms. Tkhilava stressed that due to the Russian occupation of the Georgian regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali Region/South Ossetia, the Government of Georgia is deprived of the opportunity to implement the Sustainable Development Goals in those regions.
