Publication date: 2013-05-07 Information on the Georgian First Deputy Foreign Minister's visit to New York

Between the 1st and the 7th of May 2013, the Georgian First Deputy Foreign Minister, Mr Davit Zalkaliani, paid an official visit to New York in order to discuss various issues concerning co-operation between Georgia, the United Nations (UN) and various UN member states.

During his visit, Mr Zalkaliani met the UN's Assistant Secretary-general for Political Affairs, Mr Oscar Fernandez-Taranco; the President of the UN General Assembly, Mr Vuk Jeremić; the Director of the UN Department of Political Affairs' Europe Division, Ms Elizabeth Spehar; and representatives of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Publication date: 2013-05-17 Information about the High-level Meeting on Trafficking in Persons

On 15 May 2013 Counsellor of the Permanent Mission of Georgia, Ms. Neli ShiolaSvili addressed the High-level meeting of the General Assembly on the Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons. In the statement she highlighted measures undertaken by the Government of Georgia at both legislative and executive levels to suppress this modern day slavery. The representative of Georgia reiterated her country’s firm commitment to continue to comprehensively address the human trafficking through working with all relevant regional and international actors in this regard.
