On the 13th of June 2013 during its 67th Session, the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted a Resolution 'on the Status of Internally Displaced Persons and Refugees from Abkhazia, Georgia and the Tskhinvali Region/South Ossetia, Georgia', reasserting the fundamental rights of internally displaced persons (IDPs).
The Resolution condemns the demographic changes made by force in the occupied regions, emphasizing the right of all internally displaced persons and refugees, regardless of ethnicity, to a safe and dignified return to their places of origin, and focusing upon the need to fully respect and protect their property rights.Read more...

Ambassador Imnadze said the UN, as the flagship of international community, should take a leading role in conflict prevention, assisting Member States in dealing with transnational challenges and negative foreign influences. Promoting stable societies in which there is no place for radicalization, violence and extremism, and promoting universal respect and compliance to the fundamental norms and principles of international law, as well as strengthening the rule of law on the national and international levels, could provide a long-term strategic solution to these problems.Read more...
