On November 11, 2025, during a plenary meeting of the UN General Assembly, the Report of the International Criminal Court (ICC) was presented.
The Deputy Permanent Representative of Georgia to the UN, David Abesadze, thanked the President of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Judge Tomoko Akane, for the Report and for her dedicated work.
Among other issues, the Georgian delegate underlined that Georgia’s cooperation with the ICC has yielded concrete and tangible results, reflected in the issuance of arrest warrants for individuals accused of war crimes allegedly committed against ethnic Georgian civilians, as well as in uncovering the role of a Russian Major General during Russia’s full-scale military aggression against Georgia in 2008.
In conclusion, he underlined Georgia’s support – as one of the founding State Parties of the ICC – for the Court’s mandate and independence, and emphasized important role of the Court in combating impunity and preventing future atrocities.
