Statement by Senior Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of Georgia to the United Nations, Akaki Dvali at the Event Marking the International Day of Forests

On March 21, 2025, Senior Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of Georgia to the United Nations, Akaki Dvali delivered a statement at an event organized by the UN Forum on Forests in celebration of the International Day of Forests.

In his remarks, the Senior Counsellor emphasized the importance of forests, noting their contribution to various industries, livelihoods, and national economies. He highlighted the need for sustainable forest management and the promotion of non-timber forest products, which provide economic benefits without leading to excessive deforestation.

The Senior Counsellor also outlined the measures taken by Georgia to ensure sustainable forest management, including legislative reforms and proactive efforts to support businesses in the production of non-timber forest products. He underscored the significant financial contributions of the Green Climate Fund, as well as the governments of Germany and Switzerland, to Georgia's forest sector.
