- On the 20th of November 2024, Deputy Permanent Representative of Georgia to the United Nations, David Abesadze delivered a statement within the UNGA79, 3rd Committee on draft Resolution (A/C.3/79/L.44) “Situation of human rights in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, including the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol”. In his statement, Deputy Permanent Representative once again reiterated Georgia’s unwavering support to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.
He stressed deep concerns over the systematic and flagrant violations of international human rights and humanitarian law committed by Russia in Ukraine, which are well depicted in the findings of the Commission of Inquiry on Ukraine. Herewith, Deputy Permanent Representative reiterated Georgia’s support to the mandate of the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Ukraine and underlined the importance of its work.
Deputy Permanent Representative emphasized the need of immediate, safe and unfettered access to be given to the OHCHR and other international humanitarian organizations to the Autonomous Republic of Crimea as well as other areas of Ukraine temporarily occupied by Russia.
he expressed strong support to the draft Resolution and urged all delegations to vote in favor of the resolution.
