The Deputy Permanent Representative of Georgia to the UN, David Abesadze, noted during his speech that the world is facing unprecedented security challenges and, among other issues, highlighted the extensive illegal militarization of illegally occupied territories of Georgia by Russia, along with other unlawful actions that grossly violate international law.
David Abesadze outlined the steps taken by the Government of Georgia for 2021-2025 to strengthen chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear security, as well as Georgia'scontribution to the global security architecture.
In this context, the Deputy Permanent Representative emphasized that, for the first time, Georgia has been elected as a member of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for the period 2024-2026, once again underscoring Georgia’s strong and consistent support forinternational disarmament and non-proliferation regimes.
