On 29 November 2024, Counselor at the Permanent Mission of Georgia to the United Nations, Sopio Kupradze delivered a statement within the General Debate of the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly, under the Agenda Item 73 – Report of the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

In her speech, Sopio Kupradze thanked the President of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), Judge Nawaf SALAM for presenting the annual report on the Agenda Item and emphasized that in light of the challenges that the world is facing today, the effective functioning of the ICJ and the enforcement of its decisions by the countries is more critical than ever.

The Georgian Delegate drew the attention of the General Assembly to recent decision of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR): "Georgia v. Russia" (IV), commonly known as the “continuous occupation case”, where the ECHR has held Russia fully accountable for egregious human rights violations committed in the context of Russia’s unlawful ‘borderisation’ policy. Sopio Kupradze also recalled 2021 case - GEORGIA v. RUSSIA (II), where the ECHR unequivocally confirmed Russia’s occupation and effective control over Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions of Georgia during August 2008 and afterward.

Sopio Kupradze called on the UN member states to accept the jurisdiction of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and once again confirmed Georgia's unwavering support to the court.
