On July 1, 2025, Ioseb Jorjoliani, Counsellor of the Permanent Mission of Georgia to the United Nations, addressed the UN General Assembly 82nd Plenary Meeting on the Responsibility to Protect (R2P).

Ioseb Jorjoliani spoke about the need to further institutionalize the Responsibility to Protect principle and noted that, despite the progress achieved since its inception in 2005, conflicts in the world are still ongoing. Ioseb Jorjoliani pointed out that during the military aggression carried out by Russia against Georgia in 2008, war crimes were committed against Georgia, for which the International Criminal Court established Russia's responsibility.

Ioseb Jorjoliani spoke about the grave humanitarian situation in the Russian-occupied Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions of Georgia and noted that the people living in the occupied territories continue to experience ethnic discrimination and are deprived of the opportunity to exercise their fundamental rights.

The counsellor spoke about the UN humanitarian mechanisms and underlined that Georgia supports the strengthening of existing humanitarian mechanisms, particularly the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and its mechanisms.
